Personally I would prefer to see an XML/Ada tree at SourceForge.
I have been following the GCC mailing lists for some time. Remember that
even though GNAT is part of the GCC family of languages, AdaCore maintains
their own internal tree independent of the GCC tree.
AdaCore has a commitment to maintain a stable base of software for their
customers. It would be difficult for them to use the GCC tree directly. It
would also be unresonable to require patches to the GCC to be reviewed by
AdaCore, thus there is a need to maintain two repositories. Thankfully
AdaCore dedicates resources to keep the two trees in sync, which is mutually
beneficial.
If the libre site granted read access to the XML/Ada CVS and a reasonable
response time in reviewing and applying patches to an XML/Ada, I would see
no need to maintain a separate repository. I cannot however see any
financial advantage for them to do so, and doubt they will.
So in my opinion if XML/Ada is to grow outside of AdaCore, a separate
repository is warranted.
For obvious reasons, I think it is best that a single repository outside of
AdaCore be used for a more open development. Preferably some convention of
peer review prior to integrating changes will be included in maintaining the
repository.
