As others have said, don't use unchecked_conversion for this.
And yes, the result value if of course predictable, namely as per 
section 3.4 of the RM, enigmatically entitled "Type Conversions":

"If the target type is an integer type and the operand type is real, the 
result is rounded to the nearest integer (away from zero if exactly 
halfway between two integers)" (33)
