This is not true (or wasn't the last time I read the GPL). It says that if you distribute binaries created with GPLed S/W, that you must also make the full sources available under the GPL. If you don't distribute anything, then it doesn't matter if you use GPLed S/W. If you distribute source code, then your code is only required to fall under the GPL if it's derived from GPLed S/W.
