I'd be interested in writing some papers.  Don't know if I really have
the qualifications but I suppose I could just post questions onto C.L.A.
right?
How much time do 'we' have?

I don't know what kind of article you have in mind, but even if you
don't know Ada well, you can still write an article describing how you
came to be interested in Ada, and what you've done so far with it.
Articles don't have to be technical, they just have to be related to
Linux :)

Of course you can ask here if you really want to write something
technical.

You have as much time as you want :) Just follow the guidelines and
submit your article.  If you submit 7 days or more before the end of
the month, you article will be published at the end of that month.
Otherwise, it will be published at the end of the next month.

Sujet: Linux Gazette: Call for Papers

The Linux Gazette <http://linuxgazette.net> is calling for authors for its
upcoming issues. The articles should be Linux-relevant and addressed to a
wide audience which includes neophyte Linux users (i.e., any terms not in
common usage should be defined, and step-by-step instructions should be
given where applicable.)

Articles published in LG cover a broad spectrum of diverse interests within
the world of Linux; even if you're uncertain that your article fits
completely within the guidelines, feel free to submit it. We'll be glad to
check it out and let you know whether it's acceptable as is, how it can be
adapted to fit, or if it is not at all suitable.

For more information on the LG submission guidelines, acceptable format,
style guide, and other related issues, please see the LG Author FAQ at
<http://linuxgazette.net/faq/author.html>.

The submission deadline is 7 days before the end of the month. Early
submission is encouraged, since it allows for a round of correction (if it
proves necessary) and may turn an article that would otherwise be rejected
into one that can be published.

alluding to "Ada in Debian" as a possible subject?  I note that Ada

With all the material that already exists on various Ada web sites, it
would be possible to write a long series of articles for the LG, even
if articles are small and target an audience of newbies.  I can
imagine:

Introduction to Ada structured programming
Introduction to Ada generics
Introduction to Ada object-oriented programming
Introduction to Ada tasking
Introduction to Ada 2005
Introduction to Ada.Containers
Introduction to Ada in Debian
Introduction to GtkAda
Introduction to XML/Ada
Introduction to the Ada Web Server (potential for several articles:
HTTP, SOAP, WSDL, etc.)
Introduction to GPS

etc. etc. etc. (potential authors will know themselves :) )

Of course, it is easier to have ideas than to implement them :(

these days about the benefits of strong typing as implemented in the
Ada type model. That discussion would provide a foundation for the
rest of the articles in the list below.

forefront of the Ada-Linux connection.

All good ideas. Volunteers are the issue... unless we reuse.
For example, a summary of the tutorials at AE will be published in Ada 
User. Maybe this could be reused in LG, if Tullio agrees (I would be 
surprised he wouldn't).

The issue of licensing needs to be considered for any reuse; the Linux
Gazette requires articles to be published under the Open Publication
License (http://linuxgazette.net/copying.html).

That's exactly what I meant by "If Tullio agrees" (he is the editor of 
Ada User), plus of course checking with the authors. Tullio's e-mail can 
be found from the Ada-Europe site.

I would be willing to write on one of these subjects. For example, I
seem to answer questions on the subject of object-oriented programming
in Ada quite often on comp.lang.ada. (But I am not knowledgeable about
interfacing tagged types to C++ classes.)

If I were to submit the article to Linux Gazette, I would prefer to be
assured that it could be reproduced on AdaPower and/or AdaWorld without
encumbrance.

Agreed.  Also, I read the license earlier today and I can assure you
that reproducing works under this license is specifically allowed.
The only encumberances I noticed were for paper copies, where for
example the author's name has to be printed in as large a font as the
title :)

Actually that's not for the _author_ (whose name does have to appear
on the outside), it's the _original publisher_ (I suppose that means
LG in this case).

   "Any publication in standard (paper) book form shall require the
   citation of the original publisher and author. The publisher and
   author's names shall appear on all outer surfaces of the book. On
   all outer surfaces of the book the original publisher's name shall
   be as large as the title of the work and cited as possessive with
   respect to the title."


So if I were to republish an article, it would look like

  Linux Gazette's "An Ada Spellchecker", by Joe Bloggs, published by
  Simon Wright publications.

with the LG citation as large as the title. Most odd.
