I have compiled GNAT 1.82 on Linux using the 1.81 built by Johannes Waldmann.
I put it on sunsite.unc.edu in pub/Linux/Incoming. I didn't do a very good job
of tarring it up. I tried to do the same as Johannes Waldmann and Rolf Ebert have
in previous versions. Please e-mail me if you find any problems with it.

Thanks Gene for preparing the 1.82 Linux release (at this stage Linux is
one of the most popular platforms for GNAT use from what we see). Sometime
in the future, we hope to support Linux here at NYU, but meanwhile outside
help such as you have provided is invaluable!
Incidentally, we are hoping to get a 1.83 out in the next couple of days.
There were a number of annoying little regressions that we have fixed both
in the compiler and in the release script (the switch to GCC 2.6.0 was
a bit of an earthquake, and now things should have settled down from that)

Can you at least continue the practise of putting the Linux distributions
into the pub/gnat directory on cs.nyu.edu. It's much easier for those of
us that use GNAT on Linux to find it there. sunsite is often a nightmare
to try to log on to.
Meanwhile, keep up the good work, both teams!

The latest GNAT README states that the OS/2 and DOS versions of 1.82 will be
delayed until at least 9 September. Now, with release 1.83 available
in "the next couple of days," I wonder if the 1.82 version for OS/2 and DOS is
still an issue or whether 1.83 will be the next release for OS/2. I hope the
delay between the sparc and source availability and OS/2 availabilty isn't a
permanent condition. I don't think I can afford a Sun right now just to run
GNAT.
