As far as I know, many programmers (and even many software engineers) do not
care much abour military use of their software, but they do care much about
the psychological issues, which immediately surround their everyday's work.
And this is exactly the reputation of the military and the weapon makers
regarding those matters, which tells to many programmers that they better
should not come too near to those areas.

These people generally aren't pacifists at all, but they guess that it will
be hard and unpleasant for them to maintain compatibility with military
procedural logic and military customer's habits - and they do not feel
necessary to put themselves into that environment in peace time.
